COMMUNIQUE

ON THE 23rd OCTOBER 1967, MPLA guerrillas and popular militia, operating in the south-eastern region of Angola bordering on the Republic of Zambia, intercepted a Land-Rover station wagon ES-575 which was found to be transporting a party of Zambians into Angola.

They were taken before and questioned by the guerrillas commanders of that Zone and admitted to being none other than ALICE LENSHINA,leader of the notorious Lumpa sect, accompanied by a group of her lieutenants.

Questioned further they admitted that they had been intending to go to the Portuguese colonialist authorities in Angola, who had promised to help Lenshina make contact with and rejoin her followers scattered in Angola, Congo-Kinshasa and Congo Brazzaville.

Further investigations mede in Angola revealed that her flight into our country was also known to both Portuguese & American missionaries working in Angola and that they had assured her their assistance.
Under such circunstances and knowing that the zambian police were frantically searching for Lenshina, who had recently escaped from Government restriction in the Kalabo district of the Barotse Province of Zambia, the MPLA guerrillas took decision to hand her and her followers over to the Zambia authorities.

Alice Lenshina, her group of leaders with a total of 60 followers, subsequently captured by the MPLA guerrillas in Angola, were duly handed over to the Zambian authorities on 30th October, 1967. The same was made with with their money and the Land-Rover.

Thus, in the highest spirit of fraternal co-operation with their brothers in Zambia, the Angolan freedom fighters captured, questioned and duly returned to the Zambian authorities a group of dangerous people being assisted by the enemies of both our countries and a source of great danger to a brother African Country.
